What is this weird sticky brown substance on my Aerides Lawrenciea x Odorata buds?!!!

I just got this from ebay.. came in the mail today...


I think I saw a writeup somewhere about some clear, sticky sustance on aerides buds but the spike on this one's now brown!!



Can this be salvaged? (It wasn't a cheap purchase either...)

Those are dead buds and the spike is dying back also - looks to me almost as though it was frozen, but the plant looks okay.

NNOOOOOO!!!!

This would be my 2nd attempt on an Aerides that I won't get to see bloom!!!

What do I do? Do I cut off the spike to save the rest of the plant? Do I leave it alone and let whatever flower is there left to die?

The rest of the plant looks fine to me. Cut the brown off if you want. You could probably be fine waiting till more of the spike dyed back before cutting it off. The plant looks good so it should spike again, whenever they spike, so I wouldn't worry to much.

I would agree, as the plant looks healthy I would just cut off the already browned part and leave the few flowers you have.

To the forum and YES, it's a very healthy looking plant ! I wouldn't worry.
