Default hey I got spikes!!!

soo happy found a new spike on a onc. noid that I bought during the summer. I have never spiked an onc. so I am really happy and dying to see what the flowers will look like. So I thought I'd share my others that are spiking right now and get some input as to what while the spike is growing if they (other than phals) need any different culture. Many thanks

whatever you have I do not think it is an Oncidium. Oncidium have large thick pseudobulbs and your does not.

The first photo looks like a Cymbidium and the last photo looks like a Phalaenopsis. Did you accidentally post two different plants?

In any even, enjoy the flowers and when you post them include an overall photo of the plant and we can place it in the correct family.

All those spikes are looking great!!! You can continue caring for your Onc just as you have now, they don't really need special treatment while spiking. I'm curious to see hwat the blooms will look like, looks like they're going to be red or pink.

For the Cym, if it's a standard one you want to keep it somewhat on the cool side until the buds are ready to open. Exposing it to warmer temps too early can cause the developing spike or the buds to blast.

All your plants look very healthy. You seem to be doing an excellent job of caring for them. A sudden change in evironmental conditions can lead to bud drop on some plants. Therefor it's a good idea to keep them where they've been growing and do everything the same until they start to bloom. Then you can move them to a better spot for display. Good job.

In my opinion, your Cymbidium (first photo) is blooming under severe stress, (slightly shriveled bulbs, no new growth apparent, only two bulbs) which will cause many orchids to bloom for survival. For the sake of the plant, once the small spike opens do not let it stay on the plant more than two weeks. Cut it, repot the plant properly and get it into growth mode ASAP!

Many thanks. Yes cym ladye I am not gong to let it stay and the plant long. It took so long to figure out what it was, now I don't have the heart to cut it off til it opens. It never got a cool down or anything so I was shocked to see that it was growing a spike. Yes it is an noid onc and it is the first time I will see the flowers on this 1 as it was out of bloom when I got it, this new pbulb started when I got it early spring the other 2 pbulbs are alot fatter than this one. Also here's my sagarik wax. They are several different types of orchids, not all phals sorry if you thought that I thought they were lol. I think that it is the start of a sheath or am I incorrect. Thanks again
