repotting my Onc. Sweet Ears 'Bigshot' (UPDATE)
I've tried to update correctly in the past, but I still don't know how to, so please read my initial post underneath the one below.
I repotted my orchid this morn. and I would like your advice and comments if I did it correctly or not. As I was repotting, I straighted the plant since it was leaning.....but did I straighten it enough? Depending on what you say, I can repot again if I failed to do it right. I don't mind at all going through the steps again if you think best.
My concern yesterday (and last night) was that after I repotted and moved the growth inside of the pot, the roots would be too high above the media to grow down into it as they should. Now that I have repotted, I see that the new growth root tips are already under the media, so maybe I've over-reacted....or have I potted it incorrectly afterall? If so, please explain how I should repot differently.
In a previous post sometime back by RJ Squirrel, he "comically" (I'm sure) mentioned about himself "God Bless People Like Me" (or words similar to these).....I seem to be one of those people to a point. I sometimes have difficulty typing a question to you so that I convey the question that is in my head. In fact, another member once replied to a thread by me that I worried too much. I was new and trying to learn.
I'm still trying to learn, so please bear with me.
Once again, I would appreciate your advice and comments...
Vicki
Hi everyone,
I've had this Onc. 2 yrs. I repotted it soon after I rec'd it, as I always do a new plant I buy. I had planned to repot it this month but I've never had an orchid with a growth over the pot edge, so I wanted to be sure I know what I'm supposed to do before I start.
I would appreciate your advice,
Vicki

If you are asking about what to do with the roots that have grown on the outer edge of the pot...
Just wet the entire pot and the potting media, and gently tease the roots on the outside loose, before dealing with the roots that are in the pot.

I would say that it is time to pot it in a larger pot. However, I'm no expert at this so I would fall to someone else's expertise.

King_of_orchid_growing
I'm sorry, Philip...I re-read my question and see that it is entirely too vague.....I should have gone into detail. I guess I thought people could read my mind.
I meant to ask: If I simply unpot the plant, straighten it since it's leaning then repot as usual w/fresh media (possibly into the same pot it came out of)--wouldn't the new growth be positioned too high above the media with it's roots "up in the air"? .....OR..... should I repot into a larger pot that is wide enough to allow the new growth to continue growing in the same position as it's in now (although I'm very leary of putting it into a pot that large) ???
I feel like I'm still unclear, so maybe I should ask my question again tomorrow when I'm not so tired. Again, I apologize.
Thanks for your reply,
Vicki

I think it looks good!
It seems to me that the new growth in onc alliance plants have a tendancy to climb higher than the older pbulbs.

It looks good to me. You have room for a couple years growth which is perfect. I also like those coconut husk chips in the medium. They work well oncidiums small roots. It looks like maybe you centered it in the pot. In the future you may want to consider placing the old psuedobulbs right up against one side of the pot. That usually places the new growth closer to the center and gives it a little more room to grow. But don't change anything now. It looks great.
