Default Miltassia Intergeneric Oncidium- Where to cut back?

Well the Intergeneric Oncidium I had purchased from an ending exibit at a local conservatory a while back, has ended its blooming time. Oh it was beautiful too. I now am wondering where exactly to cut the old flower spikes back to. I have read deiffering opinions. Any help would be appreciated.

I have attached a few pics to show condition and coloring.
also one while in bloom.

Miltassia Intergeneric Oncidium- Where to cut back? Male
Default

Wow - she's a really beauty. I'm no oncidium expert, but I've always cut my oncs all the way back after the spikes yellow (which gives the orchid the chance to repatriate any beneficial compounds in the spike).

Are you asking where to cut back because you're hoping for a rebloom on the same spike, like a phal? I didn't think that was possible for oncs, but would love to find out otherwise from the oncidium experts among us.

Great question.

- J

Just where to cut the spike back and when. I don't believe it will rebloom from the spike is why It should be cut back.

Nope, Onc intergenerics don't rebloom from old spikes so the 'where to cut' debate doesn't apply to them. So you cut them off at the base either when the flowers drop or when the spikes turn yellow.
