Well, another day another orchid. I went grocery shopping yesterday and they had a big healthy looking cym that had finished blooming. It was marked half price 19.99. Of course I had to bring it home. I was wondering what kind of pots you use for them. The last two I bought I put in the black plastic pots. All three that I got had split the pots(black plastic ones) and I had to cut them off. I thought if they were in any other pot I would have to break it. Do you guys use the plastic pots like they use in the hot houses here?

I'm pretty tacky but I use the gallon plastic buckets from cheap ice cream. I only have 3 and they spend the summers outside so I don't really care what the pots look like or if they split. (I do have nice pedestal pots in the back yard that they fit in)

Plastic is good for cymbs, but they tend to do better in taller-, rather than squatter pots.

What store do you go to where you found cymbidiums? I'm in NJ too, and I never find any cymbidiums.

My local shop Rite. They always have the phals but I think this is the first time for the cyms. I talked to the manager and he got 4 and only sold one for full price 39.99. I got the other three for half price when they finished blooming. I don't think he will get them again. Too much for the locals who know nothing about orchids, I think. But great for me. I think. Am going to Phila. flower show so know I will be in big trouble. Anyone else going from around here?
