Most orchids need definitive air movement. It also helps with prevention of moisture-related problems

Agreed, but on a windowsill I don't see the need for a fan, unless your humidity is really really high. In the Netherlands I usually have 60-70%, but no fan. I do avoid crowding my orchids too much so that air circulates between them.

I find that on my windowsills in rooms I use regularly (my kitchen, living room and bedroom) I have never found a need for a fan.

However my dining room is not used that much and when I had a couple of plants in there I started noticing problems with them not drying well and generally a feeling that they were not apreciating stagnant air. Because I didn't own a fan, I actually resorted to standing in the doorway flapping it to move the air and I would do the same every morning and evening.

I now have more plants in there (9 orchids filling that windowledge now) and because of that I go in and out a lot more frequently and to be honest had forgotten about the problems over the summer, until Hedge asked about needing fans with uPVC windows on a recent thread.

Bascially I tend to find that just the air disturbance from people moving and doors opening and closing does fine for me. It likely does depend on the humidity though.

This winter I've set up a small growing space for a portion of my collection in a bathroom. I find I can keep it @ 50-60% humidity, but I have to keep the door closed. I'm wondering if there is enough air movement? Bakeaway, I'm sorry if I'm hijacking your thread.
