I am getting ready to move and am trying to plan out which window to use for my plants. My options would be east or west. I have phals and catts...which one should I use?

Thanks!

Catts will be tough because they prefer a lot of light and often won't bloom unless they get strong light for a good part of the day. For phals I would say the East window. Morning light is great for orchids and phals can take direct sunlight during morning hours. My phals are on a porch where they get direct light in the morning and they're doing great.

If I have a light supplement at the East facing winow would that be ok for the catts? Also, would the supplement be too much for the phals?

I'm sorry, I grow on a patio in Florida so I have no experience with lights. Hopefully someone else can answer that question.

East is good for the phals. I have a catt in a southeast facing window that blooms yearly.

Is the window true EAST or NE or SE? That can make a big difference.

I have success with both Phals and Catts in my NYC east windows. Put the Catts closer to the glass so they get more direct sun. Haven't tried a west window, but I suspect the Catts would do fine there too.

Good luck

I agree, East for the phals, and I think West for the catts, but they still may need some supplemental lighting. You could try the supplemental lighting with the East facing window for the Catt's, but it would have to be year round and pretty strong.

Good to know. I'm not sure if it is true E or not...I will have to find out when we move in (can't wait!)
