To buy or not to buy?
I was in home depot yesterday and they got a new shipment of orchids. I saw one phal I just had to have. They only had one like it. However the leaves were a mess. Some were split and some had been cut off on the ends.
I think it would be O.K. but just can't bring myself to look at those poor leaves.
It was a beautiful deep purple with pink edging on the flowers.
How long would it take for all new leaves to come? Or should I forget it?

Phalaenopsis are pretty fast growers, but they tend to grow faster when warm, and with winter approaching, they will tend to slow down.
All new leaves is likely to be a matter of years.

Thank you Ray. I know they grow new leaves at the top. So guess the bottom ones have to die one by one slowly. All the bottom ones are split or cut. Only about two good ones on top.

"Tonight i'm gonna take that ride
Across the river to the jersey side"
If the leaves bother you too much, don't get it.

The damage you describe sounds like physical damage rather than damage caused by the health of the plant. If the plant looks healthy and strong I wouldn't hesitate to buy it just because of damaged leaves. I never buy a plant that looks sickly with the hopes of nursing it back to health. I feel that's almost always a mistake.
