Hi Paul Mc, if you're still subscribed to this thread I was wondering how your keiki is getting on? Still no roots on mine , but Mamma has put out more of her own and grown a new leaf and all looks healthy.

LOL.. I vote for skyscraper!
Well, my keiki experience has not been successful. The keiki and mother have been in intensive care (aka sphag and bag) for about 3 weeks now. The mother as of today has turned yellow and is being pitched. The keiki, though somewhat soft, is at least still green. I've used a rooting hormone on both the mother and the keiki twice now attempting to get them to root and save them both. Still nothing.
I may have to say good-bye to them both. But then, that means I get to go orchid shopping again since I can't have an empty pot just sitting around, lol...

I'll hold the re-naming ceremony tomorrow when she's watered! And, there are two more nodes between keiki and base, so, if the mood takes her, she could expand to four stories - that will test my sanity!!
Paul, I'm so sorry you've lost one, I'll keep my fingers crossed that the keiki pulls through... but you could still always go shopping to give the wee one something to aspire to

Try placing a wad of spagnum on the base where it is attached to the stem and wrap a rubberband around it to keep it attached. Keep this wad wet and the child will grow roots. In nature it is a way of propagating. The child will lay against a branch or similar and then grow roots. It will work.

Thanks - I'll look into it Though I might leave it til it warms up a bit as the weather here is so awful at the moment, the last thing I want to do is manage to rot the poor thing!!

Heads up everyone.... I think 'Skyscraper' has a root!
The tip is the wrong shape and in the wrong place for a spike - so, I think after a year and a bit, we've finally got there! Once it's a bit bigger I'll try and get a picture
