HELP Dendrobium infection - Orchid Board

PLEASE HELP!!! i just got this dendrobium gatton sunray today in the mail and i think it might have a possible infection!!! please comment!

Is that an old shaft that has been cut off? Looks like an old stock that has been cut back, is the rest of the orchid ok?

yup, im guessing the plant i have was the keiki on the old plant and the "shaft" is part of the pseudobulb where they cut it. and yes well besides sooty mold :P the rest of the plant is fine but i did have to remove some insects too :P lets just say i will not be ordering from that place again

Guess it wouldn't hurt to use a fungicide treatment of physan 20, just as a precaution.We have a vendors forum, if you care to complain, why don't you contact the vendor for a replacement and see what they have to say.

yes.. always jeff when you get some "crap in a pot" let em know about it and let them know thats not what you paid for..

That doesnt look serious but that doesnt look good either...Dendrobes can be crap like in a pot for a long time ..Fact some drop all the leaves and then they bloom like crazy...go figure

I would seek a replacement if I was the least bit unhappy but give them some time to respond..7 days ..

to me, it just looks like an old cane got broken/cut a while ago. id have to see the whole plant though. but it looks like its dried and old, so not really something to get all worried about

Will wait for pictures to see what's going on with the insects and mold, but this does not look serious. Dendrobium canes should not be trimmed or removed from the plant until they're completely shriveled and yellow. Doing so will rob them of energy reserves stored in the canes. If they are cut when they're green they will callous and die back (yellow) about 1/4". This appears to be the case with your plant.
