Ok it has rained here and been really humid (80% or better) for a week or so now. Question being should i not water or mist when this happens? All my orchids are next to open windows.
I was warned by an orchid grower to never water on overcast days. For my outdoor orchids, I pretty much follow this advice. For my indoor orchids I do check the medium just in case it's bone dry, and if it is, then I will water very lightly. Since you are growing indoors next to an open window, I think it's a judgement call based on how dry your medium is.
Also, if you grow in clear plastic pots, I would not water if you see any moisture on the pot walls.
We currently have wet 80%+ humidity as well. My orchids inside our pretty much drying as normal, I just keep an eye on them and water when they need it. My greenhouse orchids are drying very slowly though.
I think the main thing is to not water if the plant has stayed wetter than you would expect. If you do water try and do so without wetting the leaves.
Misting is a different matter and it's a good idea not to wet the leaves if the water will sit on the leaves a long while. On humid and overcast days the drops on the leaves will probably sit there for a long time and could cause problems.
