The first tag is kind of hard to read, but it appears to read ( Paph. Ransin Pie " Hsinying x Sib" ) not sure if thats correct.

The 2nd from the plant appears to be some type of Phal, but its the shape of the flowers that got my attention, a new one to me.

Hi Jeffrey, the second one looks like a peloric flowering Phal to me, which is a genetic variant where the other petals imitate the lip of a normal Phal - this is a very beautiful example where did you find it?

Very pretty, Paph, I think one parent is called Raisin Pie, it's used a lot in crosses. That phal would have caught my eye too. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, the second is a peloric Phal, a really pretty one.

For the first one I think this should actually be Raisin Pie because Paph Raisin Pie "Hsinying" is a known orchid name. I would also read the tag that BOTH parents are Raisin Pie "Hsinying".

Usually x Sib stands for 'crossed with sibling' which indicates that two plants of the same clone have been crossed. A cross like this does NOT give you a child which is also "Hsinying" because it will be genetically slightly different to the parents once you do a seed cross. I think you can also get tags with x Self which indicates that a seed cross has made with one parent. Even with a 'selfing' the result is genetically different to the parent and would no longer be the same clone.

Hi Hedge, a peloric phal huh! I found her at The Home Depot, I got there the same day they got a new shipment in and it was the only one like it, so of course I had to grab, so it was a good find then?

Hey Jeff -

I love the phal too - these peloric mutations always catch my eye. They remind me of looking at a phal through a kaleidoscope. I'm curious are all the other blooms on this spike similarly shaped? Is there a second spike? Are those blooms also peloric?

Thanks for sharing.

- J
