Miltoniopsis pseudobulbs getting smaller
Default Miltoniopsis pseudobulbs getting smaller

I have a young Miltoniopsis Anneville. Since I bought it in March with 1 backbulb and 1 pbulb it has put out 2 new growths. Which should be good news, but they are getting progressively smaller, which suggests to me that I'm doing something wrong. I've kept it outside over the summer, getting direct sunlight from sunrise to 11am, and then shade. It's watered with rainwater or deionised water (depending on rainfall!) and fed once a week with a high nitrogen feed. It has both high humidity and good air movement. It has put out new root growth, the pbulbs are all plump and leaves all healthy light green.
Any ideas as to problem or solution?
Thanks!
Kay

Hi Kay,

Do you mean that the individual p-bulbs are getting smaller or that the new p-bulbs are smaller than the old ones?

Hedge reported a problem with each new p-bulb being smaller than the last until the plant just seemed to give up and die. I'm not sure if I have a similar problem with mine as the newest growths are seeming to be flowering while a lot smaller than the previous ones. Mine also has a lot of new roots growth.

If the actual p-bulbs are shrinking in size it seems to indicate they are drying up.

I'm afraid I'm really unsure about Miltioniopsis and I'm really suprised I even have buds on mine.

Rosie, I mean that the new pbulbs are smaller than the old ones. I don't want my plant to end up like Hedge's though it looks like it might be going that way...
Thanks!
Kay

Yeah, looks like mine is going that way as well.

Mine is on an east windowledge, I probably don't water it enough (because the new growths are also wrinkled), but it has put out masses of roots and is now spiking on the new growths (buds look pretty big).

I was really pleased when I saw that it was even growing new lead growths and the masses of roots. But I was confused why it spiked on such small growths, then I read Hedges message on another thread and got worried it's going the same way.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong... if I work it out I'll let you know.

I'm wondering if the UK is too cold for them (Hedge is also in the UK).

We've not exactly had a warm august even though it was hot and dry before that. I really don't know though.
