And then you have the cattleya alliance species that put out their spikes from the base of their pbulbs. Or from around the leaves. Or both.

Fwiw, I have one aclandiae hybrid that came with buds forming right along with the lead, you can see them down in the middle of the lead's leaves.

Has this plants done this before? Does it flower as usual from these "late formed sheaths"? Is it present when the leaves open, but in a much smaller size?

I wonder if this habit is related to B. nodosa. The few nodosa I have grown (and not flowered often) have had diminutive sheaths that have enlarged after the leaf has opened.

LOl I have only had this since the Mid June so previous is unknown to me....nothing is present when leaves open at all..they emerged like a surprise lily over night almost
