The Phals are actually off to the West side of the South window, where they get some morning light, but very little afternoon light. That works well for them. They are actually almost in front of the West window right now, but that window is so heavily shaded that it never gets direct light.

Thanks,
Dave

(As soon as I get the rest of the plants, I will post some pics.)

I got the new plants today. I will post pics within a day or so. I decided not to throw them in the window planter and on the table today after shipping. I am guessing that I should give them a couple of days in the shade to recover from travelling. They are all a bit on the dry side. (Not shriveled or anything, but the pots are very light.) I will probably water them tomorrow morning and give them the daytime to air out a bit. They are all pretty healthy looking and a bit bigger than I expected.

Is this the best way to unpack plants? (Should have asked this question a few days ago!) I figure I will keep them in moderate shade, water them tomorrow and not feed them until their next watering. they are all in bark chips and look pretty recently potted. The media looks good and the tips of the roots are poking up on a couple of them (The Oncidium and the Odontoglossum) If that is not the best way to acclimate them, please let me know. I am used to fish, not plants, so I am learning as I go along.

Thanks again,
Dave

I was photographing a gutted building that was being renovated and it was a beautiful sunny summer day.

I was photographing the contractors in a room with southern exposure,
I have to say that on the 5th floor the light levels were way higher than on the 2nd floor. The building across the street were not very tall and the street was relatively wide. Yet for some reason the brightness on the top floors was a lot higher.

So not all southern windows are the same. Also teh sun in the sumemr here is very high in the sky and the light comes in at a steep angle so it does not penetrate the room well. I think eat and west windows get a lot more direct sun in the summer.
in the winter it is a different story.

Finally got the pictures!

Typing table was confiscated by somebody who wanted to put a sewing machine on it. I ended up using a plant rack instead. Works better than the typing table did.

Here is the setup.

And here is a closeup of the table.

All of the orchids are doing fairly well, except one Oncidium (Gower Ramsey) has just had a leaf turn yellow. I moved it to an old plant rack next to the main one just in case it is something that will spread. I think it is just a watering problem. (But I'm not sure if I over or underwatered) We also just had the first real cold snap of the Fall, and the temp might have gotten a bit lower than it should have. (Heat wasn't turned on yet) The rest of the plant looks okay, but one leaf went yellow, then brown in almost no time flat. I can post a pic if that would help.

Thanks for all of the advice and help. The Phals are finally blooming out and I will give them a rest and some colder night time temperatures.

The Dend's are Bardo Rose and Berry oda. Will they drop their leaves in the winter, or will they just slow down a bit?

Thanks everybody,
Dave

Hi DManley,
the Berry oda won't drop any leaf during winter just water a little less than normal.
Have you noticed that the flower smells of a nice honey aroma? it's really cool there ain't a lot of orchid's that produce scents, I found out just by luck when it flower for me.

Just so you know Dendrobium Berry Oda are fantastic Dendrobium kingianum hybrids (D. kinganum x mini pearl).

In regards to all the others I cant help sorry maybe someone from this forum has experience with them
