Cool glad I can hold off for a bit. That will give me some time to acquire the right media for it when the time comes.

Also as you can see from the first photo, there is a leaf on the bottom left that is jutting to the side. It has been broken but still hanging together a bit. Will that repair itself or will the leaf eventually fall off? Should I cut it off now?

In general - yes - when you get a new plant you don't know how long it has been in the media it has, or the condition of roots, etc, so a repot is generally a good idea.

I did take a peek into the bottom slits of the pot and found some green moss in there. There is also quite a bit unhealthy brown semi-rotted roots. It was stored in a plastic bag for awhile where watter was sitting at the bottom (during transport) so i hope that it will start to recover a bit.
I'm wondering it that indicates it is ready to be repotted (after it blooms)? I hear I should wait till i see some new root growth at the base of the plant? Perhaps a few weeks of KLN to promote root growth and if it shows signs of it, I might consider repotting it ASAP. I would use a similar size clear pot.

Yeah - I would repot that - I'd try to wait til it's done blooming. There won't be new root growth til after new leads have started. It is considered "ideal" to repot when there are new leads, but I have repotted right after blooming, before new leads, and it's always been ok.

yep i am scared to repot this one so i will definitely wait till i see healthy new root growth! I am highly considering going S/H with PrimeAgra as it looks like an interesting method. I guess i better be real attentive to doing this at the right time if i am to do such a transition.

If you haven't gotten rid of the moss, I suggest that you do.
The roots are staying too wet and are rotting off. They can quickly die off of Cattleyas if they're kept too wet.

I picked out a few pieces with tweezers but if i wanted to really get at it I would have to take it out of the pot. I figure I should wait until after it blooms but perhaps it is best to at least take out the moss now and do a proper repot later?
