I have some strap leaf Vanda( Kasem's delight, Tokyo and Robert's delight) and I wonder if direct morning sun from 7-11 am is safe? Some information on the internet says that strap leaf Vanda should place on shaded area and not direct sun.
Mine is in direct morning sun until about 11am and is doing well, but I live a lot further north than you and so mine is probably not getting as much as you would.
I have managed to give mine a sun-tan by putting it in direct midday/afternoon sun in May. It's not damaged the leaves baddly but they are reddened. That does not seem to be happening in it's new spot which just gets the morning sun.
As I said above though your lattitude can make a big difference to how much light you get in direct sunlight.
Thanks Rosie, I agree that the sun intensity is much higher here compare to your country. I move my Vandas to the place where it will no longer gets direct sun exposure from 11 am onwards, but still they will enjoy early morning sun until 10 am
strap leaf can go to full sun if it is adjusted properly... step by step...once u bought your new vanda... it will g et shocked because they were raised in a controlled environment and here in the city is sooo hot... so you have put them in shaded part.. hose it and spray it generously! till the roots turned green... discard any yellowish roots. good luck!
