Most of the time I just unpack, water, and find a nice place out of direct sun to let the plant get accustom to its new surroundings or for me to figure out a better place for it most of the time they are fine if they were healthy to begin with. I have had plants shipped in from china that got stuck in customs for two weeks, the whole trip was almost a month, and they were fine.

Generally if the plant isn't in bloom I like to repot new plants. You don't know how old the media is. Many people also isolate new plants. Tho I think I read you bought this from Kawomoto, and I would feel pretty safe not isolating a plant from them unless I noticed something that looked concerning. But if you have the space to isolate it - it never hurts I would expect a nice plant from them so probably don't need to repot immediately, but maybe plan to do it in the near future

Laelia anceps is a good beginner plant. General Cattleya conditions will be good for this one. It is very temperature tolerant.

I repot every plant that I get--which is probably why I really don't care whether the plant I buy is blooming.
When I started this obsession, I would buy from any vendor. Now, I'm very choosy from whom I buy. So, since I know I'm buying from a reputable grower, I really don't quarantine the plants.
I do, however, remove them from the potting medium they arrive and clean, disinfect and trim any dead roots (hopefully not many), then repot into the medium that I use.
I grow all my Laelia anceps and L. anceps hybrids (total of 9) in 100% hydroton and in very high light. However, your growing conditions may be different than mine, so you may need to adjust your medium to your growing conditions.
4331 STeven, the Laelia anceps GOD, grows his in moss. They would die in Miami if I grew them like that.
