i water mine everyday? and seems no problem about it... check your area...you better find an area where there's breeze... air circulation is important... poor air circulation would cauce bacteria/ fungi...

Interesting what you say frostedeyes because I keep mine in a plastic pot with bark and I water it every day... but it's in a very breezy spot and seems to dry out very very fast and so needs very regular watering.

I have all my Catt alliance in 100% Leca, and recently switched them to clay pots. They are happy, no rot, no fungus.

I will tell you that most of the old roots usually die after changing the medium though. Most of the catts/Laelias that I buy are potted either in bark or sometimes moss, and I suppose the change in environment does that. I watch the plants closely after I repot to make sure that new root growth is present. It usually takes about 1-2 weeks to start seeing new growth.

Let me see if I can find pic of my root growth in Leca.....

Here you go....

These are new roots growing in one of my (very few) hybrids)

Now that I switched to clay pots, I'm water almost every 2 days, but during the rainy season I very seldom water.

Mr. Bob,

Since I recently changed from plastic pots to clay, I'm still trying to perfect my watering schedule.

Right now I water very seldom, as it's raining almost every day in my area. I'm now monitoring for too much water---or too much rain. If it starts raining any more than it is now I will probably bring the plants inside so they can dry off completely.

When it wasn't raining it was very hot, so I was watering about every two days for the big pots and almost every day for the seedlings in the two inch pots (that you can't see in the picture because I took them inside due to the rain).
