Default New Cymbid! Looking a little yellow

I just got my first Cymbidium two days ago from a nice nursery on long island in NY. It looks great and still has a few buds left to open up, but I have never had a sympodial orchid before, (have only had monopodial phal.s before) so I want to make sure that everything looks alright. Near the base of the plant if begins to look sort of yellow, not sure if it was the packaging. Also, the media that they used is still really wet, I'm planning on repotting it, but would you recommend to wait until its done blooming?

Not sure about lime/yellow base of plant?... but the other more yellow leaf looks like natural die back to me though I could be wrong.

As for replanting, if it still has buds left to open I would be tempted to leave it till after the buds have opened, or even to flowers have died back completely. Less risk of causing a disturbance to the buds and have them dying off.
Speaking more from experience than cast iron knowledge though

Pretty plant by the way!
Not got any Cymbidiums yet myself.

Great thing about this board though, it has care sheets!

KTOrchid,

The yellowing on the bottom of the flower inflorescence is normal and you can actually gently remove the dying sheaths if they bother you. Your Cymbidium looks healthy but I would let it dry out a bit if you say it seems really wet.. The mix should not be soggy. Strange as it may seem, letting a Cym dry out almost completely, will not kill it. It just will not grow as big or as well. However, letting it sit with wet deteriorating roots will cause a fairly quick demise.

Most newcomers to Cyms tend to "kill them with kindness" instead of applying my motto of "studied neglect", in essence, applying care before they start going downhill! Eventually you will discover a happy half way place and determine how to best grow your plants in your environment.

Good Luck,

CL
