Smile Dendrobium!

Hello guys! today I rescued a dendrobium that was in desperate need for water. I repoted it in bark, and soaked it in water.

This is my first dendro ... what should I keep in mind when growing dendros?? and what should I expect??

Thank you!

First off congrats on our first dend. Most dends like fairly warm climate with day temps from 70-90 degrees, night time 55-65 degrees, the nobile type require a cool period during the winter (the blooms come off the node on the cane) which initiate bloom spikes. They like high intense light, some direct through a screen or tree. Evergreen type like to drink heavily in the spring and summer, fall watering should be curtailed but not enough where the canes shrivel. Nobiles are pendulous they also require a lot of water during growth period but one thing to remember when the foliage drops they need a rest period. Like your other chids fertilize week weakly, winter months cut back to once a month. They like to be pot bound so I would say about every 2 years. Just remember your dend will tell you if it's not comfortable in its new enviroment, usually within a week, they can be forgiving to a degree but they love to pout...gl If you get a chance send us a of your new addition.
