Dehumidifier Water? Male
Default Dehumidifier Water?

Sorry about all the questions but everyone is so great about answering that I might as well take advantage. How good is dehumidifier water for orchids?
I know that normal water is not excellent but I let mine sit for at least a week before using it, is that fine?

1) "Normal" water might be just fine. It all depends on what you're growing and the water chemistry itself.
2) Condensate from a dehumidifier is basically distilled, only instead of putting the energy into the evaporation part of the cycle, we put it into the condensation part.

As such, it is close to pure and is unbuffered, so adding a fertilizer intended for tapwater will likely give you a solution pH that is dangerous to the plants. You can either adjust it or use a fertilizer intended for pure water.

The dehumidifier is in the basement and the orchids are upstairs. I know it's ironic, I'm taking the moisture out of the basement and trying to keep everything moist upstair so that the orchids will stay healthy. If I had enough light I would just grow them downstairs.
