For the past three months I have been looking at a species phal at Big Leaf. The weather is changing, so if I want her I had better order soon. She is Phal. aphrodite subsp. formosano 'Da Wu Mountain'. I'm stalling because she is $75.00...

Hmm... good questions... I think my most expensive was the Phal "Ember"-- 30 bucks, i believe.
Phal ember 30 dollars.... a fragrant, long lasting orchid flower, priceless.

I paid $50 for a healthy, established division of a coerulea Cattleya Walkeriana, 'Manhattan Blue.' Small potatoes compared to some of you folks, but seemed like a lot to me at the time. Hasn't bloomed yet, but it's growing like a weed, so I'm hoping for blooms next season...

The most I ever spent was about $100-and that was over 10 years ago-on a Phal. pantherina. At the time they were impossible to find. I strongly suspect the plant was jungle collected, but was purchased from a legitimate grower. The good thing is that the plant is still alive, doing well, and working on putting out a new spike right now.

The most I have spent was $48 on a Phrag. Jason Fisher seedling. I thankfully have not killed it yet and it has gotten pretty big. I'm hoping for a bloom soon. I've considered spending up to $75, but just can't seem to justify it to myself.

I'd be interested on hearing as well what the most amount of money you've spent on an orchid buying trip at one time.....maybe I'm looking for a way to make myself feel better about my impulsiveness!!
