Question What’s this thing on my Paph?

I’m new to orchid-growing… got hooked on Trader Joe’s $8 mini-orchids a couple months ago. I love Paphs and got the only one they had but I really wanted another! So I got one on ebay… the day I bought it I went to Joes again and they had a new shipment… with one Paph! Of course I bought it too. Anyway, my ebay orchid arrived yesterday. It was shipped bare-root and I snapped a pick before I potted it. I’m not sure what this tiny green shoot thing is… new growth, a root, or a flower spike? Can someone please help me?

Also, should I fertilize my new orchid right away or give it a brief rest period after being shipped across the country?

Thanks!

It looks like a new growth to me. Roots are kind of hairy as you can see and the spike comes from the center of the plant not the sides like Phalaenopsis. It will develop and hopefully bloom for you on its next cycle. Ohhh and I almost forgot to the Orchid Board. Aren't orchids addictive

Welcome to the Board!

You have a new growth getting started. That's a good thing!

Paphs really don't need or even like a lot of fertilizer, and newly transplanted roots can be kind of sensitive. I'd suggest holding off on fertilizer for a while.

Welcome to orchid board toynutz

That's definately a new growth as everyone else has said. I always love it when new 'chids have new growth on them already.
