How are you ultimately going to be potting up the orchid? Was it originally grown bare root, or was it unpotted for transport?

I don't know if it's applicable to your situation or not, but about a month ago I unpotted a Den from the moss it was in with the intention of transferring it into s/h, but have since been unable to acquire more hydroton (the place I usually get it from has started charging double for their 10L bags to 'encourage' people to buy the 45L bags...I either need to find another source or bug a friend for their car) it has been growing bare root since then.

I had applied some rooting hormone (rootone...just the regular gel stuff you can get at HD or Canadian Tire) and have since seen some incredible root growth. 30+ new roots and counting.

Something like that should help your plant get ready for it's new potting medium.

I've been there before! I've had to improvise medium from chopped up wine corks and a few chunks of bark from the maple trees in my back yard mixed in with what little coconut fibre I had left...

As for reviving your 'chids, I've heard of soaking in sugar water to wake up bare-roots before potting, but I've never tried it.

On the other hand, you could try a cultivation method that doesn't require medium or a pot! I stumbled across this article a while back on water culture for orchids: Water Culture. Whether you end up trying it or not, I think it's worth reading.

Good luck with all your plants!
