You may be sorry you combined the vandas as the roots will all tangle together and you'll always have the three together as it will be difficult to separate the roots. It will be a pretty display when they bloom though.

This may be a no no and I am sure they won't last that well (comparatively speaking) but I have been growing some of my orchids in actual baskets. I pick them up at the thrift store for next to nothing when I find one I like

I am a newbie too though so take it for what it's worth (although I can say with certainty that my Phals LOVE them, they're doing QUITE well
