Hello everyone! I just joined your forum and need help..
I own a few phals hybrid and no problem with them, but now I enlarged my "family" with some new orchids:
Wilsonara Tiger Brew, Miltassia Shelob Tolkien, Colmanara Wild Cat Bob Cat and Oncidiums and Cambrias.
Do you have any suggestion regarding the most comfortable range of humidity and temperature? Now they are outside on a terrace, temp 32°-35° C, humidity fm 35% -40% (daylight) and 70% (nightly).
Thanks to all!
The colmanara can probably handle the warmth, but the rest really prefer to be about 5° cooler.
By the way, there is no genus "cambria". It is a term used to describe a number of cooler-growing Oncidiinae intergenerics, based upon the grex name of Vuylstekeara Cambria (cochlioda x miltonia x odontoglossum)
Thank you Ray. Mmmmh.. It's not easy to reduce the temperature now.. I don't have air conditioning inside and of course, nothing to do outside!
I can only create a little more shadow on the terrace and ad water under the pots (Leca and water I mean), raising the humidity.
I hope it's enough, otherwise...
No please, I like them...
And yes, this is the Cambria..
The other thing to try is if you can set up a fan to keep the air moving. Just like us humans 'chids cope with heat better if there is good air movement.
Yeah! You're right, a fan!!! In the meanwhile I moved them from the West terrace to the East one, (protected by big curtains), put all the orchids in a big tub (with Leca and water) and there, the temperature is about 28° C. with 55% humidity. If I can manage these values, do you think it's enough to let them survive??
PS: the Miltonia just flowered... Beautiful...
I did it already! I put a fan (not very big indeed) in front of the orchids, and they are still in the trays with Leca and water.. It seems to me they feel good.. Or, at least it seems to me..
