Default Masdevallia - should I be worried

Anyone have an idea why the leave yellowed and dried so quickly (1 week)? This is my first Masd. so I'm not really sure if I did something wrong.

Could be a few different things. One of the great things about masdies is that if they're not happy, they let you know right away. Then it's just a matter of figuring out what's wrong. What king of humidity is it in? In my experince, masdies don't do too well in low humidity (I keep mine along with some draculas, which need even higher humidity than masdevallias, at about 85% but they should do just fine at 70%), and just a bowl of water under the plant doesn't do it. Mind you, the climate in BC is a lot different than it is where I am, so for you that might be enough. Also, masdevallias can't stand drying out, so that could also be your problem.

Good luck with your new plant, Masdevallias are really rewarding and fun to grow! Keep us posted.

There's a possibility it was an old leaf.

Although, I will say that you might want to be careful about the pot size in respect to the root mass.

Even though they don't like drying out, they can also be overpotted and overwatered.

Out of curiosity what kind of Masdevallia is this? Different Masdevallias have different cultural requirements. Not all Masdevallias are cool growers.

It's Masd. Ahlenberger Vollmond, a cross between strobelii x schroederiana. I pulled it out of the pot yesterday as the sphag didn't smell right. I found out that it had almost no healthy roots. I've only had it for a week so I must have bought it in that condition. I potted it in fine bark / perlite / charcoal / sphag mix and I'll make sure to keep it moist next to my paphs.
