I've noticed this with one of my new phals. It is has thousands of tiny spots on the petals and when they first bloom they sort of blend with the lighter purple between the spots-- but after a day or two, the lighter gaps between the spots turn to a much truer white, making it more dramatic. Or, I guess, the purple spots become stronger. Either way, its as if the flower "settles in."

Awesome Chas! Rescue orchids always seem so much more willing to put on a good show to me, like they're thanking you for saving them.

This is a very nice stuartiana. I'd say good form, good coloring, and really nice spotting! And stuartiana tends to produce branching flower spikes, so yes, you probably do have more buds on the way!!

Mine just got sent in the mail today! I can't wait!!!!

Very nice stu Chas and an excellent save! Nice job! Do you have it potted or mounted?

It's in a pot at the moment, but I was thinking about mounting it. I have recently bought a very nice piece of Mopani hardwood from PetCo. I was thinking that the stu would be the best one to mount. That or my Brassavola cordata. Which by the way is freaking rocking. Just today I noticed another brand new leaf sprouting out! That's 6 new leaves in about 6 weeks! That's all I ask, one new leaf a week!

Thanks for the nice comments on the stuartiana. It has quickly become one of my most favorite plants.

Yep those Brassavolas grow pretty much like weeds. I have a B. nodosa that is a pretty robust grower but my B. David Sander (Brassavola cucullata x Rhyncholaelia digbyana) I can almost watch grow. It shoots out multiple growths all at the same time.
