How do you water Orchids in bark mix
Do you water and let it run through the pot or do you soak the entire pot in water? Or a combination of both. I'd like to hear opinions on what works better. Thanks, Chris

When I do the weekly watering, I let it run through the pot. About every 3-4 weeks I actually soak the entire pot in water. These pots have bark media, with phals, catts and dens.

I'm a soaker as well, but just don't let it soak to long or you will get fungus growing in the medium! I had this problem with chc when I used to soak for long periods (hours) if I got side tracked while watering. Now I soak for about 30 minutes or so and pour the water back through the pot and call it good for a week.

I prefer the soaking method. I usually soak for about 15 minutes once a week, and mist the top of the bark daily. I also, run water through my paphiopedilum pots about twice a week, since they don't like to dry out much. This seems to work for me, especially since my humidity is very low in the winter months. Everyone has different methods of watering, you will just have to play with it a little until you find what works best for you and your conditions.

anybody who has read 50% of my posts since I joined probably knows my preference
Bucket soak, 15-30 minutes. Only the barky ones though.

I have tried bark and it has failed for me- I know why.
I think bark needs a good soak, put the entire pot in a tub of water or something-
I would just spray the medium or water through.
I may try bark again one day over the rainbow, now its coconut husk time!
