Why are there roots growing at the top of my plant?

A picture of my plant is attached. It has been identified by a few of y'all here as an Epidendrum. There are small white roots (like the ones in the pic) growing in multiple places on the tallest stalk. For the past few weeks he's been in strong sunlight, and as a result these things popped out. What exactly am I supposed to do with them? The tips are green and I have observed consistent growth over the past few days. Are there supposed to be roots all over the stalk?? The highest one is near the very top...Thanks!
