I got some potting mix with charcoal, fir bark and coconut husks but I'm afraid it won't be heavy enough to keep the plant in the pot as the plant is veeery top heavy. Can I add a layer of semi-crushed rocks or something in the bottom of the pot to weigh it down, or will that effect the drainage?
Hi Lavendula. You have a Phal type Den. They like to be grown warm year round and watered and fed year round. No winter rest for these guys. This is about the right time of year for Phal type Dens to bloom, so it looks like you are right on track.
To keep this guy from tipping over put the pot it's planted in inside a heavier ceramic or clay pot. You could also use a slightly larger pot to plant in and put a big rock in the bottom to weigh it down.
Den. New Burana Jade is the name of your plant. Keep the tag and put it in the new pot.
