I could be wrong or wasteful, but I use the same watering routine all year, but I do stop fertilizing around the end of October/ early November and restart about mid-March - except vandas which get fed the same all year.
Because of black rot issues in the summer, I've moved to fairly fast draining potting mix for all plants so I water every 3 days. Now that FL is moving into our dry season, to my mind, they don't get as much mositure as during the rainy season, which also comes with our high humidity and daily rains. Seems about right for the winter slower growth "rest peroid" I think I get. Plants seem to be happy.
BTW, I was repotting plants this morning - 2 onc., 1 lealia and a mtssa. All have new roots and/or growths which says to me that our growing season has not ended yet.
You know... after 22 years here, 15 of those growing orchids, I REALLY need to get myself out to one of the local Orchid Club meetings and find out if the things I think I know really are right - or find out if there are better ways to do them! If the club members are anything like the people on this board, I'll be in for a treat.
