Paul,
I have tried E-bay. will not do that again. Smaller growers who advertised in AOS journal...not great; shows-generally good experience; Hauserman...very good; local growers...very good. I plan to stick with major on-line providers, locals, and major growers at shows in the future.

i totally understand the school thing. i am taking 6 classes and working. i am actually supposed to be writing a paper right now ![Shocked](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif) but i needed a break.
you'll be fine. i killed a bunch of orchids when i first began. not exactly a cheap hobby to be killing all of the time, but i learned a lot. it was frustrating, but it has become very rewarding.

OOPS, sorry nick, I meant to ask Wrebbitrocks where he had bought his orchids. I hadn't had my morning coffee yet ![cry](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/cry.gif) .........anyhoo, my thought was if he was picking them up from box stores that maybe half his frustration was coming from getting plants that were set up for failure. Maybe trying a good local grower who can give you some pointers for growing in your area as well as supply you with a good healthy plant. ![Good Luck](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/goodluck.gif)

I agree with that. Sometimes the big box orchids are doomed to die no matter what. I'm no novice to orchids, and I have lost a few orchids from big box stores in the beginning. The roots were in bad shape, I just didn't know it. I still get plants from those places, but I'm much more wary, and inpect the plants thoroughly before buying. I find that there's much less problems getting orchids from professional growers, and they are always there to give advice when something goes wrong.
