cnths amazing - Orchid Board

Hi:
I've been a member less than a day, and already I have a question. I recently purchased a cnths amazing plant, and it's full of buds which is great, but my question is it's very pot bound. Is that normal? I'm also wondering when would be the best time to repot it, and should I just put it in a pot just a little bigger. I'm sure it will need to be repotted it's just a matter of when.

wait untill after it blooms and if the roots are outgrowing the pot yes pot it up in a larger pot

I'm not familiar with Cochleanthes, but many epiphytic orchids lke to be potbound. Here are two of my Brassias, both are blooming right now.

From what I've read ctns can pretty much bloom year around, which is why I was wondering about repotting it.

Yep your right Toni, they like to be root-bound, so to speak. Suggestively I would not repot after blooming at least this seasonal blooming. Wait another season to repot. Usually when purchased in bloom or near blooming you should go another season in the same pot. I know from experience with my brassia leaving it for another season has produce great results. If you do decide to repot, whenever, I would suggest repotting in a clear pot with a good medium with a mix of sphag, as they do not like to dry out. I repotted one of mine a bit to soon and am sure I will be missing a season if not two before new blooms will appear, just my 2 cents worth.

Do you have a photo of you Cochleanthes, or the tagged name, there are about 15 species and not sure I have seen where they bloom year round, mostly in the winter early spring, yearly bloomer would be way to sweet ...

The taged name is ctns amazing it's flabelliformis x amazonica.

I agree with you in principle, but I will be repotting the Edvah Loo for sure. The Edvah Loo is in straight sphagnum, which has been staying wet longer than I would like. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to keep it in a pot or move it to a basket, but I'm leaning towards a basket with tree fern fiber as the medium so I won't have to disturb it again for a long time. The Rex is pretty overgrown as well, it has 4 pseudobulbs over the edge of the pot. I think I'll leave it for one more season, then move it to a basket if the Edvah Loo does well in one, or if not then I'll just pot it up to the next size.
