Default Orchid Home temperature

I live with my family and she keeps the AC on at 73 and it’s kind chilly in my room. My orchid leaves aren’t freezing but it’s lightly cool. Idk if I need to buy a miniature heater or use this heating pad I bought a while ago. It stays 73 F day and night and I’m growing cattleyas, one phal and one dendrobium ‘memory love fizz.’ Most of the cattleyas are seedling size except for two. It’s not blowing on the plants, but idk if it’s a good thing.

73°F will be fine for the phals. Especially if they’re getting enough light. I don’t grow the others, but lots of people do.

They will all grow at that temperature.

There are different kinds of Dens. with different temperature requirements. That one will grow well for you, but to flower it needs 6 weeks in winter with night temperatures below 55 degrees F. It won't want to go much below 40 degrees F. How far north do you live? Could you put it outside in winter?

I live in the south of Louisiana and I could put it outside during the cold season or I could put them downstairs in the wash room when it gets cold. Should I do the same for the cattleyas ?

For what it's worth, my Phals live on my dining room table, where the temp is approximately 70F - 74F all day and night, year round (the lower end of that in the winter, the higher in the summer). From what I've learned around here and elsewhere, they would probably like to be a little warmer, but they all seem to have acclimated. They are healthy and they bloom and grow new leaves and roots regularly.

When I kept plants downstairs, I had no issues with hybrid Phals with my thermostat set at 68° all winter. When a cat caused me to move all my plants to a dedicated upstairs room that gets down into the mid 50s on cold nights, they couldn't handle it.

If you are in my area we have the Calcasieu Orchid Society in Lake Charles. There are quite a few growers here who love to help. Feel free to contact me if you would like for info.
