For certain cases maybe. Such as what you described. If externally the buds appear purplish, then maybe there is a link for that sort of case.

For green colours ---- could be anything ----- as some orchids might produce white coloured flowers from externally green looking buds ..... or even yellow coloured flowers, or a various colours ----- depending on the region - eg. sepal, petal, throat, lip etc.

Sometimes bud color and flower color match, sometimes they don’t. I have a big white Phalaenopsis with purple buds. Many of the complex hybrids will produce purple pigments if grown in high light situations which will result in purple buds regardless of flower color. On the flip side, many of the novelty type hybrids will have green buds regardless of flower color.

I agree it doesn’t look like a terminal spike, but in a healthy plant a terminal spike is no big deal. The plant will develop basal growths and even if the basal growths don’t reach flowering size the first year, the parent plant can still push a spike from lower down on the stem or a spike may emerge from the base of a basal growth. If the plant is healthy, it won’t skip a year flowering and once the basal growths do reach flowering size it can put on quite the show.

Orchids teach patience. No matter what we guess, your plant will have flowers of whatever color it will have.

For example the 2 pictures I added have buds that start off the same deep purple color. The pink one only starts to get its buds lighter colored when it’s almost open. The other one stays purple until the end and opens into purple flowers. I have also a white phal and a yellow one both with white-ish green buds that get tinted white/ light yellow only very close to opening, another purple one with mostly green buds this time, a pink one slightly darker than the one in the picture with light pink buds instead of the dark purple of this one and on and on. There are so many things mixed up in the hybrid phals I think that you can get the same color flower from different colored buds - at least based on the color when the buds are still small. So, prepare to be surprised lovely plant and great rescue, no matter the color though!
any flower color on a healthy phal is fine though, I'm hoping for a color I don't currently have.
