Default Is this Den gonna blast?

I've had a wee bit of trouble with the new den. I brought it home and it had spider mites. I cleaned it with alcohol and repotted. Roots look great. This is my first den though, and I think I have disturbed it too much. I hear they are a little finicky, yes?

I got this one because it had so many buds on it and I wanted to watch it open. But I have a feeling they are going to blast now. They look a little...droopy. And the two flowers that were opening just kinda stopped. Thoughts?

First photo is the day I brought it home. The other two are from this morning.

Thanks!!

From what little experience I have, and from the pictures, it looks alright to me. Usually my flower buds turn yellow before blasting... and the little stem attaching the flower to the stalk shrivels up and turns yellow.

Your buds look yellow, but that might be just because the flower is actually yellow. And the little stem looks nice and green.

Anyway, if it is going to blast, there isn't much you can do about it, so I would just let it be and see what happens. Might loose a few, but overall looks pretty healthy to me.

hmmm.. they look okay to me. they do look a tad yellow, but the ones that are almost opened have the same look, so im guessing that its just the colour.

maybe the flowers are just slow to open. Some of mine take ages haha.

good luck! keep us posted!!

Yes the flowers themselves are green/yellowish. It's a D. Thongchai Gold 'Toon.' I assume it will look like this when it opens up: Open Thongchai. Purrrrty. Ok, I'll stop obsessing over it now. I just get so worried RIGHT when I get the orchid that I'll kill it somehow...

I think they'll be fine
When they're going to blast, they get a shrunken look to them, not just a discoloration.

haha

But you learn from your mistakes ... the only problem with orchids is that they are so slow growing, it takes FOREVER to learn. . oh ...and they cost money too lol.

another bad habit I have is going to orchid shows and purchasing plants that are considered hard to grow... and then they died... but that was in the beginning, well up till last month , when I decided, I am going to a local orchid greenhouse, and I am going to purchase a standard beginner oncidum orchid ... and maybe a cattleya... we'll see. ugghhhhh they are going to be so purdy, and hard to resist... but I am going to stick to my plan!!!

Den. kingianum are fast growers and really easy to care for, so that would be a very rewarding plant for you. Since I received mine a couple months ago it has grown 4 new canes and produced a bunch of flowers, which smell really good. It's a fun plant, I really like it.
