Hello everyone:
My cattleyas grow outside, hanging under the trees. I am worried because some plants are presenting these spots in new growths. They receive a lot of light and some sun in the morning; In the afternoon I have to cover some places. Will this disease or enema? The temperature for the day is between 90 and 97 degrees F but there is always a breeze. I would like to hear your opinion. Greetings.

The pictures are showing up small so I can't really get a good look at the spots. Are they sunken in at all?

Thank you for the document, I like to read everything she writes. The spots that have the leaves of my plants are not sunk, rather bulky and rough to the touch, they are coming out in some new shoots, they do not disperse, they look ugly. As these plants live outside, they are exposed to insects, right now I have thrips and ants, aphids and some mites, the ones that hurt me the most are the thrips and the insecticide that appears is in dust and does not say more. Hmm, that is strange. They could be edemas. If you haven't, take a look at the photos in this article by Sue Bottom and see if they look similar:

The could still potentially be fungal. It may be worth hitting the plants with a fungicide to see if that helps. Something like this may help as it will treat both the insects and potential fungus. Plan on doing at least three treatments, 7-10 days apart.

Yes, I had read that article, so I thought it could be edema, I have seen blisters even in the flowers but what caught my attention was the irregularity of the edges of the pseudobulbs. I also think that the excess of light with consecutive days of water, have to do with this. I applied daconil when I saw them, I didn't notice any changes, now I plan to apply some insecticide to the thrips. I will not worry more about these spots although I will watch them closely.
