Welcome to the OB, Idiggi! We can certainly help you out, but the description that one of your plants has dark patches on the roots doesn't give us much to go on. A photo would be very helpful, if you are able to provide one. I'm not sure, but some here say that you must make five posts before you are allowed to post photos. Can't hurt to try now, though.
There are many facets to good orchid culture, and it would be helpful to know certain things, like how long have you had these plants? What are they potted in, meaning type of container and potting media? Did you repot them or are they still in the same conditions as when you bought them? Do these containers have adequate drainage?
How often do you water, and how are you determining that they need or don't need water? You're not watering with ice cubes, are you?
Also, what are your lighting conditions like? Where do you have the plants situated, i.e., western window, eastern window, not near any window, etc.? Are you using any artificial light?
What are the daytime and nighttime temps like in your home where the orchids reside?
This is some of the basic information that the members here are going to need in order to offer advice on any improvements you could make to your culture.
There is a thread here in the beginner's forum which is a sticky at the top of the menu, entitled "The Phal Abuse Stops Here." Don't be put off by the funny title. It's a long, meandering thread, which can keep you busy reading for many days, but it is full of helpful information to those new to growing Phals. Here's a link:
The Phal abuse ends here.
Hope to hear back from you soon!
