I agree, the
P. elata seems to be WAY overpriced! I obtained mine for free, and it is just a weed now! Should be planted as a terrestrial for optimum growth (also deters drying out of p-bulbs).
For a 3 bulb, VERY mature division, a good price should be around $20, though a local grower in Sarasota sells them at $10. I think the reason that this species may be sold at an exorbitant price is because it is listed on CITES App. I, which in reality, doesn't mean much. You will find similar exorbitant prices with the very common
Cattleya trianae or even
Renanthera imshootiana...

It's just a marketing scheme to add some "rarity" to it.
