Question of interest concerning phalaneopsis

I was just wondering if its possible to grow phalaneopsis without any substrate. Like hanging it up in a basket let the roots hang freely, myst everyday and fertilize.

Think I saw this discussion somewhere before (not sure if it was this board) I am just curious.

I saw a program on television today and phala's where hanging naturaly in the trees and I just got inspired for a scientific experiment. Anyone allready tried this?

Phala's cost me 3 euros over here so for the its worth to try.

That's how they occur in nature .. with their roots dangling and hanging all over the place ..
Can you provide them with the type of growing conditions they need without medium?

Phals like warmth and humidity, and if you can provide those conditions, there should be no issue with your experiment, short of the needed frequency of watering.

Think Ill give it a shot. My mom wants to get rid of a certain phala Id really like to have.
Very biautifull flowers with yellow and purple mixed into them. The problem with potting right now is simply the fact I have no room left for more pots. But I have room for hanging + it looks way cooler that way. All I now have to do is wait till the flowers are all dropped and that plant is mine

I have definately seen them mounted to a piece of limb, gravevine trunk, and other ways. They do just fine as long as the cultural needs are met like any other orchid.

I have several phals although of the smaller variety mounted on driftwood. They have spag. moss to keep the roots moist. They are happy. Mine get watered everyday because of them being outside and its quite warm here. But yours should stay moist longer if inside. They look really nice mounted. Very natural looking.

I already have a phal. sitting bare root on a flood and drain table. Funny/sad thing happened to main plant, it dropped all leaves, most of crown shriveled, but roots were still good, btw it was in a pot when this happened. But before I threw the recently departed out, I checked it over really well because of the good roots. I'm happy to say it sprouted a growth. Being in a lazy mood and annoyed that this had happened, I just plopped it down in a corner of the table. To see if anything would happen. That was about three weeks ago, and it still alive. Gets watered every day and it stays pretty humid on the table. I'll try to remember to take picture and post tomorrow.
