What is your favorite orchid for fragrance
I have a number of orchids that are fragrant and my favorite might be the miltonia. They are wonderful! I only recently got my first zygopetalum. I have yet to bloom a vanda. Do you have something in your collection that is a just 'must' have in the way of fragrance. Oh, I also do have the oncid Sugar Baby - hasn't flowered yet this year.Thanks. phragman

My current new favorite is Holcoglossum amesianum - the fragrance beckoned to me at a nursery - I was trying to figure out which plant smelled so wonderful. The fragrance must have intoxicated me, because I bought it despite it costing more than I generally spend for plants (I'm pretty cheap), and having no clue if I could grow it! The fragrance is like Gardenia , not over-powering, but gently wafts across the room.

wooo, that must be really nice then, I love Gardenia fragrance!!!!
I seem to have hard time keeping that plant from getting yellow leaves/ then drop or turning into a heaven for red spider mites.
so I no longer buy them, but the scent is just to die for!

I haven't had mine too long - about 4 months - so need to wait and see how it goes. So far, so good at least!

My Sharry Baby also can give me a headache - I do like the fragrance tho - it isn't that it's sickly sweet (mine at least), just really strong when there are so many blooms (has had over 200 open at once), and they haven't been open long yet. But, mines outside, so isn't a big problem for me most of the time.

My favorite fragrances usually come from cattleyas. I like the ones with a sweet perfume type fragrance, not the spicy fragrance. I could name many that I really like but my all time favorite is Lc. Angel Love 'Pinky'. The fragrance is beautiful, strong enough to detect from a distance, and lasts for most of the day.

I only have a couple noticeably scented plants in bloom at the moment, but the one I picked up from Waldor's at the SEPOS show yesterday is my fave of the moment: Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Blue Bird' (Neo. falcata x Rhy coelestis). I'm no good at describing scents, but this one is simply divine.

I would vote for Epi. radiatum, Brassavola nodosa, and Paph. delenatii.

My zygo "Master Ian" was so strong as soon as you opened the door to come in from outside you could smell it. I was disappointed in oncid "Sharry Baby", as it didn't smell as potent of chocolate as I had expected.

The scent of Sharry Baby seems to vary a lot between plants. Years ago I had one that was very strong and distinctly chocolate but the one I have now is not so strong and not so chocolate. I imagine that it has been remade or sib crossed in many different places and times.
