Help needed on reviving my dendrobium!

Rosie- Check the base of the canes of your plants.
You should see one to three large dormant eyes. If these are all destroyed (dark or hollow), and the roots are not that good, which was the case with mine, it is better to just have the cane layed on the moist moss and keep it covered like I did. More than one dormant eyes above these dead dormant eyes will wake up after some time.

Mine took longer than a couple of month before I saw any signs of keikis.

After I had three keikis off the main canse, I kept the canes in the plastic container with moss. and now I see three more dormant eyes waking up. Yay!!!!

The bottom three canes in the first picture is the same NOID dendrobium that I "harvested" three keikis recently and about to grow some more ( close up in the second picture).

Top two canes are of Dendrobium Genting Fragrance.
These had bad roots but the main dormant eyes at the base were is are alive, so they also joined the club.

Two of the three keikis I transpotted earlier are now spikeing! Yay!!! The other one is too small I think, but who knows?

The old canes is making four more spouts now! I love this pink NOID!

Thanks for sharing your story, technique and photos. It is very helpful for us who grow Dendrobium orchids to see. I recently planted a keiki from my almost 2 foot blooming Den. Green Lantern. I just carefully broke it off and planted it in a small plastic pot with a dendrobium mix I got from repotme.com with some added sphagnum moss for moisture retention as it seems that this orchid likes to be moist. I like the clear plastic pots for orchids as you can see the roots.

NYCOrchidman, you said that you grow under a halogen lamp is that a normal lamp or a special filtered one? I have heard of halogens for normal living rooms but I didn't know that you could grow plants under them too. I am getting my first Den. at the end of the month -a spectabile- and I hear that they need high light 2000- 6000 fc. so I am thinking about getting some grow lights. Obviously they work. I have really enjoyed your thread.

Thanks for the advice I've been so busy mine is still just sitting there in it's pot on the window ledge. Really must try this. Good News is it's companion that started growing where it sat is putting out lovely roots now.

The halogen lamp I used for orchids is just a regualr house lamp, but it has dim plastic cover right under the light bulb so that the heat is not too intense.

I grew& bloomed mini phals, paphiopedilums, oncidium types, small dendrobiums, tolumnias under just one very bright halogen lamp. You have to use caution so the plants are not too close to the light source because I did burn some leaves. lol

I don't have light meter so I have no clue, but I know it worked.

I wouldn't grow mature size dendrobium under any light. They are just too tall for light set up I think.

Clarification on one thing.
Although I did grow some small keikis under LED light for some time, I switched them all to natural light (VERY bright south window). Some even under direct light and take it just fine.

hope this clears any misunderstanding on light.
