Terrestrial orchids - Orchid Board

I bought a terrestrial orchid (cringe) from Lowes, and it bloomed really well the first year. It had a tag with it and I kept it with the plant when I put it in the ground, but I couldn't find it to get the name. It has broad oblong leaves and the flowers bloom from the top of the stalk. My question is how do I get the darn thing to bloom again. It has copious leaves but isn't blooming. Any suggestions would be great.

What do you mean, "put it in the ground"? What was it in before? What kind of weather condition do you have? Any pictures?

I know Lowe's carries some Spathoglottis hybrids here and there. Treat them like phaius orchids. Keep them in bright shade and lots of water. It should bloom fairly often if given the proper culture. Pics would help and also what conditions you have it in.

I'll never try growing a Spathoglottis in the ground again. TS Fay gave my 'Grapette' a good beating and nearly drowned her and then the garden snails took care of what was left. That was a bummer!

A picture would really help us to figure out, at least, what genus it belongs to and if we knew what part of the country or zone you lived in we would have a better idea as to how to advise you.

If you are talking about Spathoglottis plicata, I have several sunk in the ground in their pots on the east side of my house and they're all starting to rebloom now. They were bought in bloom back in May. They are tropical terrestrials so I'll pull the pots up in winter and bring 'em in for the few weeks we get cold weather. You can check out pics of them online to see if that's what you've got.

Yes, pictures would be a huge help in finding out what family it belongs in. There are many terrestrial orchids. I have several in the ground here in Missouri.

I didn't think to tell you where I was. I am in zone 10 south Florida. I have Spathoglottis, but this orchid it not that. A picture would help and I will endeavor to provide one. When I said I put it in the ground I took it out of its pot and planted like a normal plant. The leaves look like a Bletilla, but the flowers do not. This is the best I can do for now.

Can't wait to see the pictures. The only terrestrials that I have ever seen at Lowes or Home Depot have been Spathoglottis or Phaius. I do know that they have both carried Bletilla corms in the past. I do love a mystery.

OK it is a Spathoglottis, I got my orchids confused (not hard for me to do). So how do I get it to bloom again for me in south Florida.
