Thumbs up OrchidWiz...if it could get any better, I don't know how!

Had the opportunity to preview the new OrchidWiz 4.0 a month or so ago with a training by the author, Alex Maximiano. Alex is a fellow student judge in the WPB center and a general all-around-good-egg kinda guy. It was amazing, so I've been eagerly awaiting the new disc. My disc arrived yesterday and I have to say it was absolutely as exciting as it gets.

This program is an amazing resource for anyone, and the new features are rockin'!

Off the top of my head, he's added a search function so you can search Orchid Digest or AOS Orchids for articles by keyword...so if you want to know about Vanda coerulea, you put those keywords in and it will generate a list of articles with those words in the title of either publication...nice, very nice.

The screen is (believe it) even more user friendly. You know when you hit the awards button and it oppened into a new screen? When we're looking up plants at judging or I'm doing research, sometimes I'd get confused and close the wrong screen...now it comes up in tabs, so you're looking at a plant, but can tab back and forth to the info you want to see...

He's also added pronunciation kes and culture...not just any culture information, he's added Charles Baker's culture! Orchid Culture - Charles and Margaret Baker Hello!

Now you can pull-up photo galleries of plants in a much more expanded way.

You can also see the Class, Subgenus and Section of what you're looking up.

I can go on and on...suffice to say, Alex has been a busy beaver since the last update.

I am anxious to see the upgrade which should be in the mail this week. According to Alex, the photo library has increased so much that he is now sending the updates on DVD vs CD. It seems as though every update has program embelishments. This is a great product! Now only if the AQ Plus program would be so easy...

I'll be interested to see the eAQ program as well, I think they compliment each other. Seems as if they're hitting some programming glitches.

So Wildcatt is going die a slow, silent death?

Adapt or die.

My 4.0 just arrived--and he'd sent it to sort of test run the download, which went without a hitc.

4.0 has been in the works for a while and is a significant upgrade opposed to just the award information.

At our last show, I was told that Wildcatt was the program recognized by AOS judges and used for judging, while Orchidwiz is not.

Is this correct......any AOS judges care to comment?

The judges at our shows make use of both programs.

Ooooohhhhhhh I'm going to go and check out the upgrade........I wants it!!!!

The only (minor) criticism I have of the program is that some plants have minimum temps listed at 55F but they grow naturally at much lower than that. But aside from that the program is the best around.
