Default An inquiry for lights.

Hey, everyone.

I just moved to my new apartment today (and I feel exhausted LOL). I've just found that the balcony here is bigger (my orchid collection barely fills it up, and you know what that means).

Anyway, the new growing area poses an interesting dilemma: the light levels here are the total opposite of what I had at my old place (I went from having bright shade with morning/afternoon light, to having deep shade, with only moderate light). I'm in a north-facing unit under a large tree. This is heaven for my shade-loving Zygopetaliinae, but miserable for my vandaceous plants and my other bright-growing orchids.

I've been considering using a light to help my bright-growing plants flower, but I'm not sure what to use. My idea was to use a shop light with two grow-light tubes, but I don't think it would be practical in this setting.

Any ideas?

You will get a lot more light from a T5 fixture than a standard (T12) shop light. Something like this be OK?

4 x 4' T5 totaling 216W
