I continue fertilising while it's in bloom but not to help the bloom but rather to support the plant as blooming can take a lot out of a plant especially a first time blooming one. Fertiliser that promotes flowering won't make any difference at this point as all the work to produce the flower finished a while ago if that makes sense.

It is best to fertilize your plants from above (the same way you water them). I think it's good to water the plants first and them hit them with the fertilizer. It's what I've been doing for 10 or 15 years and it works fine.

I would recommend going to weekly fertilizings at about 1/4 of the manufacturer's recommended dosage...in other words "weakly, weekly".

Many people are now starting to think that watering first is a waste of time. The roots absorb the water until they can't absorb anymore, so when you fertilise they don't absorb as much of the fertiliser as they would if you just fertilise without watering.

I fertilise all my plants weakly weekly without watering first with no negative impacts at all.
