My back yard is right on a lake, so I usually get good air movement. 2-3mph average, but some days there have been as much as 15-20mph. Dave, I am sure the region is a critical factor to all of this, as I mentioned in my disclaimer. I don't know that I would mount it on something that I can't bring in, in the winter, such as a tree...but you also live further south than me. I will keep everyone posted.

Yes but it is in a tank. It get natural light and temps sorta, but the tank increases the humdity by about 10 to 15 % more then what the actual humdity is. and raises the temp by about 5 degrees.

congrats gix! they look really green and happy..

on the airflow front, being a ghost virgin i really don't know what im talking about, but i would THINK that they need sufficient air flow to keep mould at bay, but not too much that the wind dries them out too quick. So i would shoot for high humidity, gently stirred air.

These did alright through the tropical storm winds, but it was really humid, too. Plus, any wind coming in, is blowing across the lake....so that probably also helps! As long as I stick to the watering... they seem to do good.

I have aa fishtank outside waiting for me to deflask mine.My concern is that it gets really hot in there about 100 degrees maybe more. Im thinking of drilling holes around the middle section of it to let some more air in. I already drilled 2 holes on the left and the right about 2 inches from the bottom when I noticed it collecting too much rain water.

Is it 100 degrees with full sun as well? A small fan would help keep it cool as well..

I'm about to deflask mine as well! probably tomorrow..
I'm going to use an aquarium with a small fan at one end, bottom filled with vermiculite which holds water for humidity, on top is a single fluoro tube, but there's a 120W CFL a little further away for extra light.

But i'm doing two things differently:

1. I'm going to try and extract the plants in a sterilised environment, try and get the biggest ones out, but replate the smallest ones, and any protocorm balls to another flask, hopefully they will continue to multiply (crosses fingers)

2. And for the medium, i'm using plastic mesh (rain gutter stuff) formed into cylinders, with live spanish moss stuffed into the centre, then a ghost orchid, then a bit more spanish moss, like a sandwich.. I think the spanish moss will be resistant to fungus, as well as providing good moisture, without ever getting 'wet'. Im not too worried about them flowering, i plan on then mounting them to bark once they're a lot bigger (and hopefully not dead)

P.S. There's another guy who just deflasked his over at this site: Deflasked Dendrophylax lindenii | Orchids Online
