Everblooming Orchids! Yeah!!

Couldn't say how long this will go on, but have a phal. bellina with an evergreen spike that has been blooming since at least june and the spike shows no signs of being ready to quit; always another bud coming behind the two flowers that are open. And she has two younger spikes developing in addition to the one that's currently producing blooms. So far haven't had more than two flowers open at one time, but she faithfully produces another as soon as one goes. As you can see, one's about to go now, but there's another on the way!

Got a yellow noid phal that has been blooming since middle of May when I bought it at a local nursery. Only one flower has wilted so far and that is because it's pollinated, not because it was actually done. I hope these this seed pod turns into something and that my first flasking attempt is successful, because this plant is very happy and vigorous.

People here in Namibia tend to think that orchids are just weird and expensive, but I have to say $15 for a a two spike phal that blossoms for four months is good value for money, even if you're not planning on keeping it after it'd done. Beats most cut flowers, that's for sure.

After a very long list. I would like to add 3 I did not see.

Pluero. telipogoniflora. Since the first flower opened in April, with 3 spikes. It now has 12 spikes all of which are in bud and 3 open today. The flowers are short lasting, but excellent in shape and color. It does bloom sequentially on each spike and the flowers continually overlap blooming time, so it has always been flowering.

Also Kefersteinia mystica, which has bloomed on 7 spikes from the same growth, growing new psuedo's at the same time. I don't know if this is typical, other growers have said they were unsure, because their plants did not do this.

Dend. victoria reginae also bloomed for me from Aug to July of this year. Both plants had flowers the whole 11 months. They each took a month off, but are now budding once again.

All grown in terrariums. Moderate temps, 2ft T5 lights and humidty above 80%. Distilled water with Dyna-Gro and Fox Farm Big Bud fertilizer, alternated.

My choices would be any psychposis hybrid or clone, Dracula mopsus (if kept in perfect conditions), and Epidendrum Radicans. Phalaenopsis isn't really everblooming but does flower for a long time.

According to my records this Dtsp. Purple Martin 'Champion' bloomed for 15 months straight, starting back in 2009. More recently it blooms for about 6 months out of the year.

Someone said that there is no such thing as an orchid that everblooms.. that is simply not true. I've had 3 reed stem epidendrum specimen plants. All different colors that have been in non stop bloom for the last 4-5 years and i can almost ensure that they arent going to stop blooming anytime soon. My purple epi has maybe 200 or so growths and maybe 35+ flower spikes at any one time. It grows keiki's nonstop and the keiki's get flower spikes and once in a while i'll get a keiki that is only a flower spike with roots but no leaves lol.

But a well grown epi specimen will bloom non stop all year round for many years. Ok... even a not well grown specimen too ;-) lol. (hinting that i'm not a great grower wink wink). It must take care of itself because i've never repotted it, almost never water it and i dont fertilize it, its basically just a weed actually..

Ben, would you please post a picture. I had some very large plants that succumbed to the cold we had one night a couple of years ago. They seem to like cool temps. At least they bloom better with cool nights but we had 25F one night and that was just too cold. I have had them survive 28F for a few hours.

Thats a very pretty plant! Mine looks a little scraggly but heres a couple pics for you! Ya mine don't seem to mind the cold so much. They love blooming too haha!

The inflorescenses are also smaller here in the winter, they look much more full and round in the spring/summer but they continue to bloom through the year!
